The Nigerian filmmaker, Stanley Nwoke, has taken to social media to shed light on the distressing situation surrounding the late Precious Ofurum, a member of the Nollywood industry. In a heartfelt post shared on his official Instagram story, Nwoke revealed the harrowing ordeal faced by Ofurum’s loved ones, particularly concerning the reluctance to retrieve his body from the riverside in Asaba, Delta State.
According to Nwoke, while the bodies of other deceased individuals from the industry have been exhumed and transported to their respective hometowns for burial, Precious Ofurum’s remains remain untouched. Despite concerted efforts and financial contributions from various quarters, including Nwoke’s own fundraising initiative, the process has been stalled due to familial disputes and the alleged objections of Ofurum’s father, who identifies as an orthodox practitioner.
Nwoke lamented the lack of progress in resolving the matter, expressing his frustration at the reported infighting within Ofurum’s family over financial matters. Despite raising 1.2 million Naira and receiving substantial support from influential figures such as Prophet Jeremiah and the Rivers State government, the efforts to repatriate Ofurum’s body have been thwarted by familial discord and conflicting beliefs.
The filmmaker’s poignant revelation sheds light on the complexities and challenges faced by families dealing with the loss of a loved one, compounded by disputes and cultural differences. As the situation unfolds, Nwoke’s impassioned plea serves as a call for unity and compassion, urging all parties involved to set aside their differences and prioritize the dignified repatriation and burial of Precious Ofurum, a cherished member of the Nollywood community.
