A Nigerian residing in the United Kingdom recently sparked a debate on social media by questioning the authenticity of prominent preacher Chukwuemeka Odumeje’s spiritual practices.
In a now-viral video, TikTok user Agu Joel Chigekwu shared his disappointment with Odumeje’s conduct during an event in London. According to Joel, Odumeje left his admirers, including those who were unwell, feeling let down.
Joel recounted how people from various parts of London had eagerly gathered to see Odumeje and seek spiritual guidance. Attendees purchased tickets, arrived promptly, and sat expectantly in the front row, hoping for healing and blessings.
However, when Odumeje finally arrived, Joel claimed that the preacher diverted attention away from his spiritual duties by promoting his song ‘Powers’ at the airport. Upon his arrival at the venue, Odumeje allegedly proceeded to perform his songs for 30 minutes before abruptly leaving for another engagement without offering prayers or spiritual support to the attendees.
This sequence of events led Joel to question whether Odumeje’s primary role was that of a clergyman or an entertainer. His remarks stirred conversations online, reigniting discussions about the intersection of spirituality and entertainment, as well as the conduct of public figures in positions of influence.
He said: “He sing oh, people come think say after singing he will start praying for people before you know it Odumeje don disappear. Na person come dey tell me say he get show for another place. I come dey wonder Odumeje na pastor abi na performer. Na artist him be?”
